Luiz Antonio Teixeira

luiz peqLuiz Antonio Teixeira holds a doctorate in social history from São Paulo University. He works in the history of science, focusing particularly on the history of health. He leads the history of cancer control research group in Brazil (funded by CNPq) and participates in the “History of Cancer– actors, scenarios and public policies” project. In this area, he focuses primarily on the development of human resources for the cervical cancer prevention program. He is head of the Department of Research into the History of Science and Health at Casa de Oswaldo Cruz.

Laurinda Maciel

laurinda peqLaurinda Maciel holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in history from the Federal Fluminense University. She obtained her doctorate in 2007 from the same institution, with a thesis on the history of leprosy in Brazil between the 1940s and 1960s and the public policies for its control. She works as an archivist and researcher at Casa de Oswaldo Cruz, focusing on the oral history of cancer control in Brazil. She has published articles in specialized periodicals and catalogs of oral history projects from concluded research projects, has supervised undergraduate research projects, and is involved in and coordinates research and technology development projects, amongst other activities.

Marco Porto

porto peqMarco Porto holds a bachelor’s degree in medicine (1977) from the Federal Fluminense University (UFF), a master’s in cardiovascular science (1988) from the same institution, and a doctorate of science from the National School in Public Health at Fiocruz (1995). He has been a member of the UFF faculty since 1980, and is currently an Associate Professor, level 3. A member and two times head of the Department of Health and Society, he has undertaken several activities in the areas of primary care, healthcare and the culture and history of medicine. He has been involved in municipal health care planning and management in the state of Rio de Janeiro, and also worked at INCA (on loan from UFF), where he ran the cancer care area. Between August 2005 and February 2009 he was a member of the institution’s board as a coordinator of strategic actions. In June 2010, he was loaned to the research area of Casa de Oswaldo Cruz/Fiocruz, where he coordinates the “History of Cancer – actors, scenarios and public policies” research project.
